Writers Corner, a non-governmental organisation has announced the winners of its Rising Star Writing Competition involving pupils from various primary and secondary schools in Nigeria.
In a press statement announcing the winners and signed by the Project Co-ordinator, Uche Udoji, the competition, which is the 6th edition was themed ‘Dreaming with Your Eyes Open.’
It added that “the winning entries are compiled and published by The Writers Corner, in the Writers Corner Blog, and in anthology publications of Poems and Short Stories with credits given to the writers.”
In the secondary categories, Sijuanu-Olowu of Corona Day Secondary School, Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos emerged the winner while Araoluwatomiwa Adeleye of Livingspring High School, Awoyaya, Lagos and Fareedah Adams of Corona Day Secondary School, Ibeju-Lekki
Lagos came second and third respectively.
Three pupils also emerged winners in the primary categories. While the first and second positions were not mentioned, Olumayowa Kuti of St. Saviour’s School, Ikoyi came third.
“We congratulate these children and every other child that participated in this short story competition. Well done children for participating, you are all winners,” the statement read “We will continue to work with Class Teachers and Literacy Teachers to discover and hone the writing skills of our children.”
