Dawodu becomes 3rd President of Rotaract Club at LASUCOM

The Rotaract club of Lagos State University College of Medicine has installed Dawodu Oluwananumi Joshua as the 3rd President on Saturday, January 16, 2021.

The installation cermony was sponsored by the Rotary Club of LASUCOM Ogudu GRA, chartered on May 15, 2018, held the installation ceremony of Rotaractor Dawodu Oluwananumi Joshua and Induction of Board Members.

The club officially installed the third president in the person of Rotr. Dawodu Oluwananumi Joshua alongside the other newly appointed executives of the club.

This ceremony included a fundraiser for the implementation of upcoming club projects such as Water & Sanitation Project.

The third edition of the official magazine of the club ‘The Stethoscope’ was also launched as well. This magazine is an international publication as it features articles and publications from Nigeria and beyond and is read both locally and globally.

The rotaract club of LASUCOM which was chartered in the year 2018 has become a club committed to the service of its immediate community and beyond having implemented highly impactful projects with its three years of existence including Hepatitis B Vaccination projects, community sanitation projects, Free Prostate screening and advocacy project to mention a few.

Our Rotaract club which just falls below 50 active members is one of these clubs in our district which needs to work hard on attracting more active members to support our club life and our service to the community and the University community.

Over the past 6 months we have achieved giant strides encompassing celebration of the World Hepatitis Day which is a very unique day that was set aside by the World Health Organization to commemorate, celebrate and remember those who help to fight, survived and died of Hepatitis all over the world under the theme “Finding the Missing millions”.

The Rotaract Club of LASUCOM engaged in partnership with HealthDrive Nigeria to create awareness about this deadly condition by organizing a virtual conference titled “How government policies can end the menace of Hepatitis in Nigeria” and Dr Ibidapo Fashina was invited as the guest facilitator. This project aimed at equipping the general public about the basic information a bout Hepatitis including its causes and prevention strategies and how government policies and its adherence is very pivotal to ending the menace of Hepatitis in Nigeria.

The beneficiaries were the general public, about 120 people attended the virtual conference and gained firsthand from our facilitator and over 2000 people gained from the publicity of salient information about Hepatitis by the club.

Through our virtual Breastfeeding awareness campaign, we estimate to have impacted over 3000 people evidenced by the rigorous publicity wrought through the club’s social media coupled with every of its members social media accounts too.

We also celebrated World Literacy Day which is a movement usually commemorated globally to encourage and enforce education and literacy in a bid to totally eradicate illiteracy from the world. The Rotaract Club of LASUCOM was therefore invited to Hi-Impact Television to discuss about Literacy Education in the COVID era, alongside a representative of The Mindset Africa.

The general public were enlightened about the importance of education and literacy, the adverse effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on education and literacy in Nigeria and the most actionable solutions to enforcing a hundred percent literacy in Nigeria.

In October which serves as the awareness month for Liver cancer and Breast cancer and since both of these cancers are very prevalent in Nigeria as the most common causes of cancer-related deaths, Rotaract Club of LASUCOM ensured to create massive awareness about both cancers by engaging in a myriad of activities such as partnering with the 2020 class of Millennium Fellows LASUCOM to conduct a Breast Cancer Awareness webinar, engaging in radio shows at LASU Radio, Unilag FM and Jordan FM, engaging in TV Shows at Television Continental and Hi-impact TV. The Breast cancer webinar themed “I am and I will” was facilitated by Dr Omolola Salako who extensively elucidated on the causes, prevention and early diagnosis of breast cancer and the available treatment options and about 50 attendees were present at the webinar. The radio shows altogether have an estimated view of over 10,000 and the TV Shows has an estimated reach of 100 thousand.
